The Capital of Pistachios – Gaziantep

Pistachios & Gaziantep, a couple that's inseparable!

In the southeast of Turkey lies the pistachio city of Gaziantep. The original name "Antep" was renamed Gaziantep after the War of Independence by Atatürk. "Gazi" means veteran and is meant to reflect the great sacrifices, but also the great successes, of the city during the liberation against the Allies.

Pistachios and Gaziantep belong together like a pot and its lid. Gaziantep is my parents' hometown, and I'd like to tell you, at regular intervals, both about the beauty of the city and the diversity of its pistachios.
In the past, the city achieved prosperity through somewhat questionable means (smuggling consumer goods across the Turkish-Syrian border). Today, however, the economy in the Turkish metropolis of Gaziantep is thriving. It is the sixth-largest city in Turkey and is becoming increasingly important for cultural tourism too. Yet Gaziantep stands out far more for its wealth of agriculture, industry and trade. The fertile, red soil offers the best conditions for growing pistachio trees. The pistachios are harvested in September and processed for various purposes: after drying, a large part of the pistachios is roasted and salted in the shell, going into circulation as a snack for direct consumption. The other part is shelled and traded natural, used for pastries such as baklava. Which brings us to the next point: pistachios and Gaziantep aren't really a duo, but rather, if we add baklava, a trio!

Baklava isn't just an ordinary dessert but an art of gastronomy in Gaziantep. On our site you'll find, among other things, shelled pistachios for further processing, in the widest variety of forms and qualities. We'd like to claim that we're pistachio specialists!
